Contractors and crew

Two separate routes: established garage door contractors who want booked work, and individuals looking for a position with one of those contractors.

Garage door contractors

KC Garage Door Tech books work and assigns it to independent contractors across Wyandotte, Johnson and Leavenworth counties. We are interested in established operators with their own vehicle, their own stock of springs and hardware, and the ability to reach a Kansas-side address within a working day.

What is verified before any address is passed over: current general liability and workers' compensation cover, with the certificate produced rather than described; business registration with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County for work in Kansas City, or contractor licensing through Johnson County for the cities south of the line; and a vehicle that carries torsion springs in the common residential gauges, lift cables, drums, rollers, hinges, photo eyes and opener gear kits. A contractor who orders a standard spring in rather than carrying it is not a fit for a service built on same-day attendance.

What is expected afterwards: a figure agreed with the homeowner before work starts, itemised into parts and labour; work stopped and a revised figure issued where a dismantled assembly reveals more than was quoted; the obstruction test run before leaving; and the door left balanced. Those are not aspirations, they are the terms on which work continues to be assigned.

Technicians and crew

The contractors we assign work to recruit their own people and hold the employment relationship. We pass details on where a contractor is hiring. The positions that come up are garage door service technicians, installation assistants and apprentice roles for people entering the trade.

What those contractors consistently ask for: a clean driving record, the physical capacity for overhead work, and either demonstrable experience with torsion spring systems or a genuine willingness to be trained on them from the beginning. Kansas issues no garage door licence, so there is no state credential to present; what substitutes for it is a verifiable work history and a sober attitude to stored-energy components.

Making contact

Write to hello@kcgaragedoortech.com. Put the word Contractor or Crew at the start of the subject line so it routes correctly. Include the counties or towns you can cover, a short account of your experience, and a telephone number. Contractors should attach the insurance certificate at the outset, since nothing proceeds without it. A formal resume is not required to begin a conversation, and a telephone call to (913) 347-4187 works equally well.

No fee is charged to any applicant at any stage, for any reason. Anyone requesting payment in exchange for placement on a list of technicians is not connected to this business.

Loud bang in the garage and the door won't lift?

That is a broken spring, and it is the most common call we take on the Kansas side. Tell us what you heard and where you are. The price is agreed in the driveway, before anyone picks up a winding bar.
