Stuck open in January, shut tight with the car inside, or hanging by one cable
A garage door stuck open is an unlocked house losing heat all night. A door stuck shut with the car behind it is a missed shift. A door hanging crooked on one cable is a two-hundred-pound weight with nothing reliable holding it up. These three go to the front of the queue, any day of the week.
What counts as an emergency here is simple: the door is unsafe, the house is exposed, or somebody cannot get to work. A door stuck open overnight in winter is all three at once — an open garage in a Kansas January drains heat out of the rooms above it and leaves everything in there, including the door into the house, available to anyone walking past. A car shut in matters more than people expect, because the manual release only helps if the springs still hold the door's weight; with a broken spring that door is dead weight and lifting it by hand is how backs and fingers get hurt. A door hanging off one cable should simply not be touched until somebody arrives with the right clamps.
The phone is answered around the clock. Tell whoever picks up what you heard, what the door is doing now, whether a vehicle is trapped, and which town you are in; that is enough to work out whether the truck needs to come tonight or first thing. We would rather talk you through making it safe and come at eight in the morning than charge you a night rate for something that can wait eight hours — and we will say so on the phone.
What a night call looks like in practice: the technician secures the door first, with clamps under the rollers or the door brought down and locked, so nothing can fall while the work happens. Then the actual fault. Broken springs, snapped cables and doors off the rail are the overwhelming majority of urgent calls, and the parts for all three are on the truck. If the repair genuinely cannot be completed in the dark — a bent rail that needs a part, or a door too damaged to run — we leave it secured and closed, and come back in daylight with what it needs.
Two things worth knowing before you call. First, an after-hours call-out carries a stated fee, and you hear that number before anybody is dispatched; it is never discovered on the invoice. Second, if there has been a power cut — and the metro knows what those look like, with 350,000 customers dark in the 2002 ice storm — the door may be fine and simply have no power. Pull the red release cord with the door fully closed, lift by hand, and if it lifts easily the door is healthy and you need an opener with battery backup, not an emergency visit.
What's included
Answered at any hour
A person takes the call through the night and at weekends, gets the details, and tells you whether this needs a truck now or at first light.
Made safe before repaired
Clamps under the rollers or the door brought down and secured, so nothing can drop while the technician works on it.
The urgent parts are stocked
Springs, cables, drums, rollers and brackets cover the overwhelming majority of emergency calls, so most finish on the first visit.
The fee is stated up front
After-hours call-outs carry a known charge, quoted on the phone before anyone is sent, never added afterwards.
Honest about waiting
If it is safe to leave until morning, we say so and book you first thing rather than charging a night rate for it.
Secured if it cannot be finished
When a part has to come from a supplier, the door is left closed, locked and safe, and we return with the part.

Questions we get about emergency garage door repair
What counts as an emergency?
A door stuck open, a car shut in, a door hanging crooked or visibly unsafe, or a snapped spring on a door somebody has to use to get to work. A door that is simply noisy, slow or scraping is not urgent, and booking it in normal hours costs you less.
My car is trapped. Can I lift the door myself?
Only if the springs are intact. Pull the red release cord and try to lift it a few inches; a healthy door comes up with modest effort and stays where you leave it. If it feels like lifting a fridge, or it slams back down, the spring is broken and the door is pure dead weight — stop, leave it shut, and ring us.
Do you charge more at night?
There is an after-hours fee for a genuine night call-out, and you are told it on the phone before anyone drives out. Daytime weekend visits are charged at normal rates. Nothing appears on the invoice that you did not hear first.
The power is out and the door will not move. Is it broken?
Almost certainly not. With no power the opener does nothing at all. Pull the release cord with the door closed and lift by hand — if it moves freely, the door is fine. If the metro is having one of its ice-storm nights, that is also the argument for a battery backup unit before the next one.
It is three in the morning and the door is stuck open. What do I do now?
Ring us, and while you wait, bring the door down as far as it will safely go and lock the door between the garage and the house. If the opener has power but the door will not close, it is often a photo eye; wiping both lenses and checking they face each other solves a surprising number of these in two minutes.
Will you come out to Leavenworth or Bonner Springs at night?
Yes, anywhere on the Kansas side we cover — Wyandotte, Johnson and Leavenworth counties. The drive is longer out to Lansing and Leavenworth, so the honest answer on timing comes when you call.
